A Quick Interview with Lori Needham, Vice President Customer EngagementMay 03, 2018



As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a teacher. Growing up, I had the good fortune to be a part of a great school system with incredible teachers in Akron, Ohio. Many of them influenced me in different ways. Because of them, for many years, my goal was to be a teacher when I grew up. However, during my first job working in a major department store, I realized that I liked interacting with customers better. I would listen to what they needed and made sure they were happy. The rest is history.  

What does your typical workday look like?
A typical day starts with planning and realigning my priorities. Global Software, Inc. customers actually drive my priorities each day. Whether it is a phone call, WebEx session, or an internal strategy meeting, I try to leave my calendar clear to accommodate these activities. In between customer activities, my focus is on looking for more ways to enhance the customer experience.

Have you always worked in the software industry?
Yes, the majority of my career has actually been in the software industry. In fact, it all started many years ago when I worked for Global Software the first time. I went to work for a few other software companies for a few years before coming back to Global in August of 2017. I have been very fortunate to wear many different hats in the software industry, working in everything from consulting to quality assurance, and a long time in sales managing large strategic accounts. The software industry is truly home for me.

What do you like most about working in the software industry?
I like the direct connection with the customer. When you are in the software industry, there are so many touch points with the customer and ways you can help solve their business requirements. Here at Global Software, we have always aspired to put the customer first, and I have this great opportunity to be a part of a customer’s journey. I will admit some journeys are bumpier than others, but all are worth the ride.

What inspires you most about your job/career?
It has to be the relationships you form along the way. Some of the people I have met in my history have helped nurture my career and supported me in achieving major accomplishments. Several of these relationships have inspired me to push myself out of my comfort zone, challenging me in ways I would not ever have driven myself to go on my own. 

What is the most enduring lesson you have learned so far in your career?
Treat everyone with kindness. No matter what the situation or circumstances you have to deal with—whether it is a customer, employee, or even someone you meet randomly day to day—an act of kindness such as an ear to listen or even just a smile and a hello can go a long way.
